What is in my traveling skincare bag?

2017, Beauty, houston, naked palette

Hubby and I are weekend travelers. Whether it is a weekend in the cabins, or a drive down to Houston, we like to save our vacation days and head out to experience some adventures for the weekend.

This past weekend I headed out to my parent’s house in Houston to celebrate my sister’s birthday. We usually leave right after work so that means I have to pack an overnight bag quickly.

In order to make my packing experience less tedious, I keep a beauty bag with my favorite default items.

I get my favorite items in a sample size or a traveler’s size from Sephora. This way I have the same products to use even when I’m traveling.

Skin care-

Neutrogena makeup wipes|Origins Checks & Balances Frothy face wash|Origins GinZing scrub|Origins Original Skin Serum|Josie maran argan oil|Rose water

If it’s been a crazy weekend and I’m exhausted this is my holy grail. I just wipe my makeup off using this, and rinse before heading straight to bed. If I’ve got more time, then I use the frothy face wash & scrub. Most of the time, especially if I wore makeup that day, I’ll use the face wipes, then use the scrub just to make sure my skin is baby smooth. I’ll use the rose-water as a toner and follow-up with my serum & the Argan oil depending on how oily my skin is.

Naked skin makeup|Urban Decay concealor|Kat von d tattoo liner|Elizabeth Arden pencil liner|Voluminous mascara|Naked palette|Anastasia contour kit|Stila Stay All Day liquid lipstick

If I’m going to Houston for a normal weekend, then I usually pack these items. A good base consists of my foundation and concealor and that’s what I build the rest of my look on. My sisters usually have the more elaborate items I can borrow if need be. I tend to pack the basics and change-up my lip color to change my look. The Naked Palette has a good range of neutral colors so that I can use that for day looks as well as night looks.

I prefer a bold eye look over a bold lip look but if there is a special event then I will use my bright Stila lippie.

If I’m traveling for a wedding, then I pack some additional eye colors in gold, silver, and sometimes even my Anastasia Modern Renaissance eye shadow palette. That palette has some nice rose toned colors that go well for weddings and other events.

September Favorites! Birthday Month and Haul special

2016, Beauty, favorites, makeup, monthly favorites, Uncategorized

That’s right! It’s birthday month. Every year this month, I celebrate and take out time for myself. Whether it is a nice day at the spa resting up, or not worrying about splurging for myself, I take full advantage of this month by indulging!

Here are some of my favorite items that I’ve indulged in.

I’m starting to believe that a good lipstick can make or break an outfit/look. I’ve noticed how many women of the Indian subcontinent lean towards darker, more brown tones for lipsticks. I’m the opposite at least until the fall and winter seasons. I love the bright pinks, the hot fiery reds and the bold magentas and burgundy tones. Anything to brighten up my face!

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Punjab makes me feel like I’m well rested and that I’ve got the best skin in the world. It’s light and refreshing while it covers my slight imperfections. I’ve ranted and raved about this foundation for many months. It’s definitely my favorite go-to foundation for taking pictures and for social gatherings.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve bought an eye shadow palette. The last one I got was the Urban Decay Smokey palette last year. I’m still using that but this time around I wanted some more shades for the fall. I finally broke down and ended up getting the Smashbox Matte Exposure palette. It’s got the perfect shades for this fall season from mauve to deep purples, I’ve been using this palette like crazy.

This month I splurged on a present for myself. I haven’t bought a fun bag in a while and I definitely didn’t have one in this burgundy plum color. I’ve been loving the options that Michael Kors has out right now. Plus I scored this beauty at TJ Maxx for only $99!

August 2016 Favorites.

2016, Beauty, favorites, makeup, Uncategorized

August has been crazy! Between buying a house(!) to renovating a house (!!), I’ve been all over the place.

This month has been mostly casual in terms of clothing and makeup. It’s been raining quite a bit over here in Dallas so I’ve been mustering some extra effort to keep my face dry and humidity free.

GlamGlow Thirsty Mud mask-

Oh the humidity! Dallas weather has been crazy for the past few weeks. We’ve had 100 deg days turn into 75 degree days all within hours and random showers sprinkled between the sun and clouds. The change in weather and the change in my personal situation has been making my skin dry.

My new favorite item for skin care this month is the GlamGlow Thirsty Mud mask. I’ve been using it in place of my regular night time treatment. The formula is very hydrating and it doesn’t leave me feeling greasy. It feels like I’ve left a nice puddle of water on my skin and in the morning my skin has absorbed all of the moisturizer and feels amazing.

Origins GinZing Scrub & Origins Checks and Balances Face wash-

I’ve been guilty of leaving my skin in terrible condition this summer. While we’ve been renovating/updating our house, I’ve been neglecting my skin on a routine basis.

Late in August, as I was packing, I found the Origins GinZing Energy boosting  Scrub and the Origins Checks and Balances Frothy face wash.

After spending my weeknights and weekends painting, scrubbing, sanding and remodeling my face needed a little extra TLC. I love the citrusy scent of the GinZing scrub while the Frothy face wash left my face cleansed from the paint and dirt. On nights where I couldn’t use my Clarisonic or my normal cleaning routine (hey, remodeling is a tough and tiring job!), I’d run to these for a quick 5 min cleanse before heading to bed.

Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47-

I’ve never been a great with putting on screen. It’s just not my forte. This summer I’ve spent a great deal of time outdoors. The Texas sun feels so strong during the summer and I’ve been scared that the rays are harming my skin instead of providing any benefits. That’s why I’ve been getting better about putting on sunscreen and having a light formula like the Josie Maran one really helps. The sunscreen comes in a signature dark bottle with a pump that dispenses a white moisturizer and sunscreen combo. I love argan oil and what it does to my face so much that this actually had become a part of my morning routine.

Most sunscreens break me out but this one hasn’t as of yet.

Urban Decay One and Done Foundation-

I’ve been scarce with foundation since it’s been humid and over 90 degrees here in Dallas. My go-to foundation during this time of year is the Urban Decay One and Done since it released this summer. It’s a great blend between a BB cream and a foundation. It provides the best coverage while being light on my skin.

Urban Decay Naked Concealer-

I’m trying really hard to finish my stock of concealers before we move. It is just too hard to do especially when I keep reaching for my Urban Decay Naked concealer every single time!

Monthly Favorites-February

2016, Beauty, eye, makeup, monthly favorites, sephora, skin care, skincare, year in review

Feburary Favorites

I’ve had the opportunity to try a lot of new products in the past year. It’s been a blessing to be able to test my skin and my routine with various foundations, lotions, and tons of different make up products. Obviously, each and every person is different and there are going to be some things that are my absolute favorites that you might not like, and things that I dislike that are your absolute favorites.

That being said, let’s take a stab at my favorites from this month!

Skin Care

I’m getting old. There is no denying that and with age comes a whole myriad of skin changes. I’ve been trying to avoid using crazy ingredients and keep to a more holistic approach to taking care of my skin. That being said, I do not ever intend to stop using my Clarisonic. It’s been the one thing that I always run back to whenever my skin doesn’t feel soft and supple. I use it with my Philosophy Purity face wash. It’s a crucial part to my weekly cleansing routine.

I’ve always been a toner girl. I’ve had uneven skin tone since I was a teenager and I’ve been using a toner to combat that. When I was younger, I’d use the alcohol-free toner from Neutrogena. It was cheap and worked when I was younger. Now that I’ve gotten older, I’ve decided to change my routine. I’m currently using the Pixi Glow Tonic. It has a subtle scent of roses and it feels like I’ve been bathed in a luxurious rose bath.

I’ve tried to use the Neutogena moisturizer and it ruined my skin. I’ve since been exfoliating like crazy and using my go-to moisturizer.  The Clinique moisture surge helps renew my skin and I’ve been using it religiously day and night to heal the cracks on my face.

Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator, 1.7 oz

I’m an avid fan of the Urban Decay Naked foundation for daily wear and light coverage. In fact, it’s my go to foundation on the routine. But February was filled with many events and occasions were a light coverage foundation just wouldn’t cut it.

That’s when I discovered the Nars Sheer Glow foundation. I don’t need a whole lot of coverage even when I head out to parties or formal events for work. Pairing the Nars Sheer Glow with my Nars concealer provides just enough coverage so my face looks dewy and fresh.

Plus being of Indian descent, I’ve been amazed to find that the Sheer glow foundation has a color called Punjabi. That color happens to be the most perfect match to my skin. It’s not too light nor is it too dark. It just provides the most flawless coverage for my skin.

It’s a bit on the pricey side, which is why I’ll most likely reserve the foundation for special occasions.

Nars Sheer Glow in Punjabi

nars sheer glow

I’ve got fine lines under my eye and that makes covering dark circles a difficult task. I like how this formula is very light and doesn’t settle into the creases under my eyes. I also like that I can layer it on and still look natural. Again this is my go to product for my daily routine. For more coverage, I’ll use my Nars concealer.

Urban Decay Naked

I’ve been a fan of the Eyeko eyeliner for years (I got my first one in an IPSY bag). Recently it’s not being sold at Sephora anymore and as much as that saddens me, it also gives me the opportunity to try something new. I’ve been using the Stila liquid eyeliner pen for a few months now. It’s not as pigmented as my Eyeko eyeliner, but it is still just as long lasting.

The felt tip on the liner allows me to control my application and create a precise wing. It’s been a blast creating fun liner looks with this pen.

Sephora VIB Haul 2015!

Beauty, haul, makeup, sephora

So Sephora loves it’s customers so much that they give us VIB folk 20% off! That being said, I think more people spend more money when they buy things on sale. At least that’s what I did.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Opal- Glow on the Go!– $20

There isn’t a single person on this planet that does not want to glow! I’ve heard great things about the Becca highlighters and I fig

ured why not try the shimmer powder and a highlighter wand.

I was debating on the Becca Champange pop highlighter by Jaclyn Hill but I’ve heard that color doesn’t suit my skin tone.

I’ll be sure to let you know how this color looks on my olive skin tone.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder -$37

So I have to confess that I’ve never really used a setting powder all over my face. I use the Ben Nye Banana powder for under my eyes to set my concealer but I’ve never found a setting powder that was fine enough to blend smoothly into my skin. I’m going to take a stab at this and see how it works.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (Ginger)- $29

Everyone always raves the Nars concealers. I’m a part of that everyone. I love how wonderfully it covers my dark circles and blends into my foundation. My foundation is the Nars Sheerglow.

Josie Maran Argan Skincare Ritual Set– $24

I’ve been using Josie Maran Argan oil products for years. I use the face oil nightly before I go to bed and I have the JM creamy argan oil for the rough winter nights. I’ve been interested in using the cleansing oil but again, I hate to splurge on something like a cleansing oil if it doesn’t work. I love the way the argan oil moisturizers my skin while keeping it light.

Sephora Favorites Beauty Sleep – $30

Ahh the joys of aging. Every person of youth will hopefully get old, and with age comes wrinkles galore. But that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t try to prolong my currently wrinkle free skin.

This set contains:
– 0.51 oz Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial
– 0.5 oz Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream
– 0.25 oz Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment
– 0.24 oz Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil

I’ve never used any of these products yet but I know the brands and well deluxe sample size of these products should give me enough insight to see which ones I would want to purchase a full size product of.

Bite Beauty Discovery Set – $55

This set contains:
– 0.18 oz Agave Lip Mask in Clear (mini size)
– 0.03 oz Line & Define Primer in Clear (mini size)
– 0.031 oz Mini Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Glacé
– 5 x Lush Lip Wipes
– 0.15 oz Luminous Crème Lipstick in Pepper (full size)
– 0.11 oz Lush Fruit Lip Gloss Honey (full size)
– 0.09 oz High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate (full size)
– Bite mirror

I’m super excited to try all the colors that come in this discovery kit. I’ve been thinking of trying the lip wipes for a while. I feel like this set is a great way to figure out if I like Bite Beauty products instead of splurging on one product and figuring out that I don’t.

Plus I don’t ever finish an entire lipstick so the smaller sizes actually means I might finish a lipstick.

New this month! UD Naked Smoky & IPSY bag

Beauty, makeup, naked palette, urban decay

Have I ever told you guys how much I love makeup? By now I’m sure you realize that I am obsessed with Urban Decay products, most especially their Naked palettes.

Canon_August2015 2192

The packaging is gorgeous! It’s a thick plastic casing that looks like it captured the smoke. Very beautiful in my opinion.

Canon_August2015 2193

My favorite things about this palette is the range of colors. It’s not just a dark palette. I wear the light brown colors on a daily basis and the dark colors for nights out in town.

Canon_August2015 2204The color payoff is just what you expect from Urban Decay. This is actually one swipe with no pressure. As you can see below I didn’t take a lot off from the palette!

Canon_August2015 2200

I’ve been playing with these colors all month and hopefully I’ll get to do a blog post on the looks.

My IPSY bag this month was really nice as well. I got a lipstick in a gorgeous pink shade. I’ve been wearing it on a near-daily basis. I also got a tarte bronzer! The shade is perfect for my complexion and I’ve been using it for day time contouring. I haven’t gotten a chance to try out the Eva.Nyc dry shampoo yet but I’ve heard really good things about it, and the other products from this brand are of good quality so I’m sure I can expect great things from it.

Canon_August2015 2187

Two brands that I received and didn’t really care for was the chap stick from Jersey Shore Sun and the OFRA eye shadow. The chap stick seems like it was an after thought and that they ran out of products so they tossed it in the bag. I can use the eye shadow as a highlighter and the color pay off was subtle enough to do so, but I don’t have a Z-palette or something I can just snap this eye shadow into so it would be kind of difficult to use in my makeup bag.

I can’t wait for my August bag just to see what goodies I get to try from IPSY

I’m so excited! My August Glam Bag is on the way!

With June comes the end of May and another round of monthly favorites.

Nightly Skin Care goodies

Love Lettuce

Lush Fresh Face Mask- Love Lettuce $6.95

I love Lush, most especially their fresh face masks. These face masks last about 2 weeks and are preservative free. I generally use the face mask every other day for 2 weeks. I’ve used other fresh masks from Lush before such as Oatifix, BB Seaweed and Brazened Honey but this was my first time using Love Lettuce

The Love Lettuce mask contains ground almonds so it doubles as an exfoliate for me making my night time routine cut in half. Love Lettuce contains lavender oil which helps combat oil and the almond oil helps with moisturizing the skin. One key point to note, the ground almost is coarse so as to remove dull, flaky skin, but it may be too harsh on sensitive skin.

boscia- Tsubaki Deep Hydration Sleep Mask $34.00

I’m a great believer that your skin rejuvenates the most while you sleep. I’ve been using this sleep mask nightly for almost a little over a month. I initially bought it so I could use it during the flights on my vacations. The mask has the consistency of a moisturizer- thin, light and very hydrating. But it also stays on your face keeping it hydrated until you wake up and rinse it off. The white creamy mask smells of rose and seems to disappear as soon as you put it on.

Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream

This product is sold out or not longer being produced. I received it in my Birchbox a long time ago but recently started using it as an eye cream because of it’s thickness. I’ve been liking it so far as a moisturizer.

Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Intensive Anti-Aging Cellular Eye Creme $65.00

I purchased this eye cream during my previous anti-aging haul and boy, do I love it! As I’ve mentioned before, I do not have heavy wrinkles which is what this product is geared toward, but I use it every night and before I use a concealer. Using it prior to using concealer has helped fill the fine lines below by eye where concealer used to previously crease. It’s been amazing at keeping those lines at bay.

My Everyday Makeup

Naked Skin Foundation – 4.5 $39.00

I’ve never used a foundation as natural and perfect on my skin as the Naked Skin foundation by Urban Decay.  The 4.5 color is a perfect match during the summer while the 3.5 is a good match when I’m not as tan.  The foundation sits comfortably on my skin and doesn’t make me look cakey at all.

Revlon Photo Ready concealer $10.99

I’ve used so many different concealers in my life but by far, the best concealer (especially drugstore) is the Revlon Photo Ready concealer in

Urban Decay Naked Palette $54.00

Truthfully, I don’t wear any other palette as much as I love this pallet. This is my go-to palette for a smoky eye, or a neutral eye shadow look. I’ve had this palette for over 2 years and it is a charm! I’ve used it for weddings, work and even running routine errands. I’m definitely a very big fan of Naked palette. See my last post on the new Naked Smoky Palette.

I’ve been a fan of Urban Decay for years. Many of my favorite products are from the brand: foundation, concealer, eye shadow primer, eye shadow, lipstick and pressed powder.

Every time a new Naked product comes out, I’m the first to sign up! Naked Smoky will be Urban Decay’s 4th full size ‘Naked’ pallet.

According to Refinery29, the new UD Naked Palette will have 12 shades ranging in neutral color families. You’ll have matte shade, and then clusters of bronze, taupe and grays & blacks followed by one eggplant shade. That is a total of 9 new shades, and 3 exclusive colors!

The colors look fabulous and if they are anything like the previous Naked palettes I know I won’t be disappointed. With 12 new shades, I can only imagine the different eye shadow looks I can do!

Not only can you use these ‘smoky’ shades to create evening looks, you can use the matte colors to pull off work appropriate looks as well.

One of the things that excites me about Urban Decays’ Naked pallets are the amount of quality that comes in each and every shade.

Anti-Aging/Skin Care Haul

anti-aging, Beauty, fashion, haul

Let’s talk about the best products out there to help you prevent lines and reduce dark spots. As I mentioned in my last post, fine lines and dark spots are tell tale signs of a mature or maturing complexion (or more commonly known as the – “Wow you look old” signs!).

I’ve had some gift cards from Sephora & Macy’s that I wanted to use up.

This haul was a long time coming as I’ve recently used up my regular cleansing and moisturizing products.

[Keep in mind, I used Ebates and a lot of discounts & coupons to get these products so I definitely didn’t pay full price. Always be on the look out for good deals! ]

  1.  ORIGINS PLANTSCRIPTION  Anti-Aging Origins Anti-Aging Essentials Set ($20)
  2. philosophy radiant & refined skincare value set ($70.00)

  1. philosophy Miracle worker miraculous anti-aging moisturizer ($60.00 for 2 oz)
  2. OLE HENRIKSEN Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster ($48.00 for 1 oz)
    • The truth serum is citrus scented and is great for a pick-me-up during the day. It goes onto the skin and doesn’t feel heavy or overwhelming. This serum supports natural collagen production, brightens the complexion and minimizes fine lines.

  1. PETER THOMAS ROTH- Clinical Skin Care Mega Rich  Intensive anti- aging cellular eye creme ($65.00 for .76 oz )
  2.  Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Smooths, Restores, Corrects($49.50 for 1 oz)
    • The repair wear laser focus is a favorite of mine. It is light and seems to fill in every tiny crease on my face. I wear it in the morning before putting on my makeup and it helps smooth out the fine lines near my eyes!

Some of these are repurchases such as the Ole Henriksen truth serum and the Clinique Repairware. I do love those two.

I’m excited to give these a try! I know they are a bit pricey but if you can find coupons, ebates, and points back, you really aren’t spending that full price.

I will be doing a post on at home anti-aging tips you can try!

Let me know if you’ve tried these products or if you have some other favorite anti-aging products!
