Age is but a number but wrinkles are forever!

anti-aging, Beauty, health, skin care

Once upon a time, it was thought that anti-aging products should only be used at the first sign of a wrinkle or crease.

That idea made very little sense to many people, including myself. After all, you wouldn’t apply sunscreen only after you’ve gotten cancer. Prevention is key. It’s easier to start now and slow down the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines rather than to try and make them disappear.

In this series, we’ll be talking about my skincare routine and my favorite products to slow down the aging process. We’ll start by talking about what wrinkles are and how to prevent them.

The Rules:

1. Liston to your mother- WASH YOUR FACE!

You’ve been hearing it since you were a kid. Wash your face. This is the most important rule in skin care including anti aging.

Makeup and dirt sink into your skin and lead to clogged pores. Your skin is a living, breathing organ. It is the biggest organ in/on your body.

The best cleansing routine is one that starts with a makeup remover (I’ve been using coconut oil!), a mild cleanser, a delicate exfoliating agent, and ends with a toner. I’ll be doing a separate post on this topic.

2. Limit exposure to the 3 S’s.

You can avoid developing pre-mature signs of aging by being aware of your environment and lifestyle.

Start by limiting your sun exposure and wearing sunscreen when you do head out. The sun’s rays cause deterioration to the skins outer layers. Wearing sunblock/sun screen helps protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

Quit smoking. I shouldn’t even need to explain this one anymore. Cigarettes contains numerous chemicals that strip your body of nutrients and cause many issues. It is just not healthy nor will it keep you looking and feeling your best longer.

This last one is very important. Stress is disastrous for your overall health including your skin. Increase in stress has been linked to an increase in signs of aging. The best way to decrease your stress is obviously to get rid of the stress causing agent. That may not always be possible. Alternatives might be better coping habits for the stress. Take up painting, write in a journal or start an exercise program so you can limit your daily exposure to stress.

3. Be consistent

As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day. You must be consistent with your routine. Make sure you don’t fall off the wagon and give up. Even if you skip a couple of days, just get back into routine.

As human beings, we look for instantaneous results. With your body, especially anti-aging, you must be patient. If you are waiting for your wrinkles to disappear overnight, you will be disheartened. This might cause you to lose hope.
